Latest Updates from Our Project:

International shipping failed, update about refunds!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Nov 17, 2021 at 11:36:21 PM

Please take a moment to read this.

Since our last update, my optimism about your packages proved to be unfounded. The packages HAD already left my hands at the not-so-meager expense of $1000 for the trip to Germany where they were to be handed over to ShipQuest. BUT…

Simply put: the packages never made it through German customs. They were rejected and shipped back to me.

I've been told many different versions about the reasons; they range from plausible but greedy all the way to wild but possible due to our current shipping climate. I won’t dive into the “what” or “how” but, long story short, I've received the packages back and lost the $1000 I spent to ship them.

Why can't you ship them now and try again?

You may also remember that I shipped the packages in a rush at a time when there was an increase coming in taxes due for imported goods. Due to that time having now passed, we hit the tipping point – it's no longer possible for me to ship these items to backers at my own expense nor is it reasonable to ask you to pay the ungainly prices now being charged. The funds simply are not there on our side and each person would have to individually weigh their choice to pay a marked increase for their products.

That means I have to make the painful decision to cancel those orders and issue refunds.

How long will this take?

There’s no point to sugarcoat this: it will probably take quite a while. Some of you will begin to see refunds in a month or two; others might not see the last refunds go out up to a year or more from today. The reason is simple and it's the same issue that brought us to this place... lack of funding.

We plan to address this by continuing to visit conventions and expanding our business, by running Kickstarters that we can guarantee will be fulfilled to backers in the USA in a timely manner, and by moving products that have been delivered to backers onto digital or print-on-demand platforms to widen our reach. Every penny of profit that we made in the last year - EVERY PENNY - has gone towards trying to refund or ship outstanding packages to backers.

Now we're going to start shifting all of our profits away from the lost cause of shipping and into the more viable avenue of refunds.

Can we still get your products elsewhere?

Yes, there are 3 options available to you listed from best to worst.

1. Print-on-Demand
For more affordable options you can try print on demand services such as Lulu or DTRPG which offer our products. These services can directly print our items in multiple countries (you'll have to check and see if this works for you or not) thus lowering the cost of fees and shipping down to something totally reasonable for most customers. It's honestly still hit and miss on whether your country has access to those printers. The two current places that the Tome of Magical Mystery and The Cursed Collective are available via print-on-demand are

Lulu (The Tome of Magical Mystery and The Cursed Collective, Hardcover editions)

DTRPG (Books and cards available in print on demand and shipped directly from the factory to you)

2. Etsy Discounted Shipping

It is possible to get our products directly from us with reduced current shipping using our Etsy store where shipping matches current cost, although that is still insanely high. A recent customer in Greece who purchased $50 worth of cards paid over $94 as his total after taxes, fees, and shipping. We cannot pay Etsy directly for shipping only and thus only items sold right now on Etsy are available through their contracts for their reduced shipping fees.

This doesn't help us ship things in general, it just allows us to ship items sold on Etsy for far less than if you were to purchase them on our website. Etsy does go ahead and charge everything needed for your country including VAT so there will be no surprises when your items arrive. We take extreme care when packaging items for long distance travel. If there is something you wish to purchase from us through Etsy and you do not see it currently available on our store, please let me know and I'll make it available for you.

Session Zero Games Etsy

3. You pay every penny of the increased shipping

This one is both the most straight forward and the worst option at this point. You can have us look at all of your pledges across all of our projects and anything not yet delivered then calculate exactly what it's going to cost to package and ship your products to your country. This method would have to be paid by you 100% in full at the time of shipping so we could afford the packaging and the cost of shipping.

Unfortunately, if you previously paid for $20 shipping, we are unable at this time to discount that amount from your shipping cost: it's simply not available. Although this option is the fastest way to get your products, and we're happy to do this if you request it, know that this cost is the highest before you request it. Also, understand that other complications can arise with VAT fees needing to be paid by you upon arrival to your local post as our Stamps.com account or local shipping offices don't allow us to pay that for you before the product leaves the USA. That can change depending on location – sometimes it will automatically calculate this in and other times it requires you to pay your post directly.

4. Extremely Generous Forfeiture

This is an open option for any backers interested in simply declining their previous pledges, rewards and or refunds that would be coming your way. I've been asked by a few people about this option before, it IS available with a massive thanks if you want to go that route.

Well, where do we go from here?

That one is simple, my friends. We put our feet on the ground, dust ourselves off, and head ever...

International Orders making progress!
almost 3 years ago – Sat, Jun 19, 2021 at 05:03:41 AM

We did it!

We found a few investors that have banded together with us in this fight! 5 in fact whose names we won't quite put up in front of the world unless they tell us that we can later but they've already helped the company make IMMENSE leaps forward in terms of deliveries! over 500 in 2 months!

We also finally found some AWESOME people in the company GamesQuest (also ShipQuest and TradeQuest) who are helping us get all of this under control!

The biggest issue we were having was finding someone who actually knew what was going on, what all the policies were that changed and how we were going to prepare for this going forward and thankfully I ran into an amazing man named Paul who introduced me to Nigel and Steph and Ian and so many other people who were immediately bending over backwards to help us. I can't state enough how much help they've been in the last week!

What does this mean to backers?

We now have prices that make sense for both delivering our international packages that are outstanding AND for offering new Kickstarter products to international backers going forward!

Delivery Status

The remastered decks have almost all been delivered to North American backers minus a few (less than 5%) missing an item here and there (which are on route to me from a manufacturer now) and we're in the process of getting the prices lined up for international deliveries as you read this. If it weren't for a glitch in the intake system (or a flub up by me, we'll see what they say) I'd have them already but ShipQuest is on it! I'm double checking the products now that are on my shelf and prepping them to go overseas early next week and I'll be shifting some product that is printing from china directly to their warehouse in Germany for EU distribution as soon as printing is done (mostly some books and decks of cards that were missing.)

What about our delivery date?

I know this word is ominous at this point but... SOON! And this time I can say "some number of weeks less than 10" for the majority of everyone who has been waiting. We have hundreds of cards and books and coins and other products that are being counted now, prepped for shipping to their warehouses and then will be moving on to you. There is still some paperwork, some intake process for the products, all that behind the scenes stuff but we are finally actively moving forward.

I will be posting another update as soon as we have a more solid timeline because until this is final and something is in the mail I don't want to set down a date. The entire world is still delayed with shipping due to a ton of reasons, in fact there's an excellent video that was put out be Quackalope recently that hits a lot of the high notes and I do suggest you give it a watch!

More soon!

IMPORTANT Shipping Progress Update :)
about 3 years ago – Thu, Apr 08, 2021 at 05:59:43 PM

Truly Wild Magic: Remastered product delivery numbers!

Because there has been some concern expressed about whether or not any packages have been delivered, let me give you a couple facts and figures. First, most people who receive what they pledged for don’t write in, so that’s where there hasn’t been an avalanche of “I got it” messages. Second, here’s actual percentages:

91% of North American packages have been delivered.

The remaining 9% are missing 1 item or more from their pledge due to stock shortages which may be traded for something else if they want to receive their package sooner rather than waiting on a restock.

If you are in North America and you do not have your package please contact me directly so that I can make direct changes to your pledge and get your package together and out the door :)

2% of the International Packages (test shipping) have been delivered.

The remaining 98% (124) of International packages have had major cost increases due to Brexit causing shipping rates to skyrocket. I have yet to find a replacement shipping company that is EU friendly and affordable.

A better explanation is that the cost of shipping 124 international packages from my home is $2953.75 (as calculated by BackerKit directly including shipping and packaging cost). The average shipping paid by those 124 was $12 per person, which means a total of around $1488 was collected (which was the cost at the time).  That means an additional $1465.75 has been added to the cost. In essence, all package costs have A) Doubled! and B) Do not include the VAT fee coverage if I were to ship like this. That means each individual would need to pay for their own VAT if necessary when the products arrive at your location and that changes based on the cost of your rewards. That would be about an additional $12 per person (which is not accurate! each persons contribution would be directly whatever the cost of their shipping would be, not a flat $12 per person!) I would need to collect just to BREAK EVEN on the shipping.

If I am to ship using the EU friendly method at a new company (as Spiral Galaxy Games, my original shipping company, no longer is EU Friendly at this time) then the prices would fluctuate based on the cost to set up the project, import the goods to their system, ship the goods to their location and then include a sorting and handling fee when the packages are shipped to backers. While there are many distribution warehouses and companies in existence, there are very few that will deal in numbers as small as mine (less than 500 or less than 1000 in some cases) and there are none I have found as yet that will do them for less than what I can do it for myself here from home by 40% or more.

Our options, as a group, are as follows:

wWe keep waiting to see if my original shipping company figures out how to become EU friendly again and when they do, we begin shipping! I've been told that this could be as soon as June, but I have no guarantees.

2) I am contacted back by a distribution carrier that will deliver your packages for a reasonable price along with the EU friendly tag. I have reached out to more than 30 companies and have found through the grapevine that most of them work together or in conjunction with others. None of them at this time are directly focused on working with small gaming companies (as small as me, anyway) and require far more stock than I have. Otherwise they would charge me warehousing fees for the stock left over due to their minimum requirements.

3) I keep searching for alternative shipping methods that lower the cost enough for me to be able to afford to ship your packages in a reasonable manner by either "piggy backing" with another larger company (which I'm still trying to do, that's what I've been waiting to post about because I have not received a solid response other than 'we'll do it and it will be cheap and awesome'.)

4) I ship directly from my home and everyone has to pay the difference in what they originally paid versus what the new cost is AND you have to cover the VAT fees (if there are any) when the time comes. I don't think this is the best option, but it is the fastest.

I'm open to suggestions if you have any or you know of some strings I can pull which might fix this situation. However, without some infusion of "extra cash" that comes either from somewhere that I can make it (please check out my new Kickstarter, after funds are used to make and deliver product to backers the extra gets funneled back into older projects with issues similar to this) or I'll find someone who wants to purchase a piece of the company and infuse some cash into this little business as a whole. I've got big things on the horizon! This slump isn't gonna sink me ;)

International Shipping Update and NEW Moji Condition Cards Kickstarter!
over 3 years ago – Sat, Jan 02, 2021 at 11:50:01 PM

Hello Backers!

International Shipping Status

The packages have arrived at the US destination address for all international shippers but have not yet left US soil. I contacted SGG, my UK shipping partner, about the slow down and they told me that new shipping policies have them collecting Kickstarter packages at the port and sending them over when enough product from their suppliers on our side of the pond have arrived at the warehouse to fill out enough pallets to make it viable for them to send them overseas.

I have been assured that the new Brexit rules do not apply to products sold and paid for BEFORE January 1st, 2021 so we will be receiving the same shipping cost that we would have received had they went out last year but our timelines are wonky due to the changes. The bad news for NEW projects is that when you purchase items NOW that have not yet been paid for before the end of 2020 you'll be subject on those new products to the new Brexit rules which are currently not super friendly to the EU.

The timeline we've been given is somewhere around 6 months before some big rules come into play that will allow SGG to revert to more EU friendly shipping again but until that time I have already received a VAT number and certain other licenses so that I can continue to legally ship things into the EU with our without their assistance, it just means the prices will be higher than normal until further notice on new projects. Speaking of which...

Roll20 Updates

If you weren't aware, I do have a lot of my products in digital form on the free to use digital table top platform known as Roll20. While most of my products are simple Roll20 formatted copies of my existing magic item cards or even moji condition icons, I've decided it's time to test the waters with some digital one-shot adventures and have been working with a company that specializes in Roll20 mechanics known as Wyvern Anvil Press! Our first co-release is The Light On Top Of The Mountain! Check it out by clicking the image below!

Christmas One Shot Feedback

I just wanted to ask if anyone had any feedback to share on the one-shot Christmas adventure :) If you loved it or hated it, found it joyous or revolting, please let me know with a comment! We've got more in store if you played it and want more but if you could care less then we won't bombard you with them as the year goes on!

Until the next update when I have more information on final shipping,

More Info About The Adventure

We've built what we think is a zany, funny and FUN adventure that you can sit down and run with 4-6 friends in about 3 hours. You can bring your own characters but keep in mind that this adventure is balanced for Level 6 characters. A smart and careful party of level 5 adventurers can survive with intelligent planning while level 7 characters will still find plenty of challenges if they try to simple rush through and take everything on at face value :)

In this Christmas one-shot the players will be playing an elite hit squad of elves sent on a secret mission from Santa. The mission is clear, infiltrate Krampus’s evil workshop and put an end to his evil doing in time to save Christmas. This is written as a stand-alone adventure, but it could easily be added into your campaign by having Santa request the help of the existing party or introduce the mission by whatever plot hook you decide.

We're using this as a way to judge interest in this quality of drop in adventure for your games so please leave comments here or share reviews on reddit or other social media sites and help us spread some free Christmas cheer! If you like what we've done then you can look forward to us reaching further into this type of output for your games that would be available through multiple sources including Roll20!
